This Saturday, the Michigan Science Center will host the Incredible Science Machine Launch–a Guinness World Record attempt for the largest Rube Goldberg Machine in the world.
If you’re not familiar with a Rube Goldberg contraption, it is an overly engineered, entirely unnecessary collection of objects designed to complete a very simple task. Still struggling? Think back to the opening sequence of Back to the Future in Doc Emmett Brown’s lab or to pretty much any Looney Toons episode involving Wile E. Coyote and the Acme Corporation.
The Incredible Science Machine will be made up of over a half a million objections arranged to create an enormous chain reaction with the aim of setting the Guinness World Record for the Largest Rube Goldberg Machine in the World. The machine will be set into motion at 3:00 p.m. EST.
